Here’s a new video clip on Munsey and Boda!  You can find more links to video clips and news articles written about the Munsey and Boda in former posts dedicated to Munsey and Boda.

I happened to be visiting Munsey and Boda during during some hot and humid days.  The early morning hours did’t seem to have as great of an impact on the cubs as much as the hot and humid evenings.  Last night the cubs seemed to be struggling with the heat and humidity from the long hot day.  Boda was digging up sand in the hopes of finding some cool damp sand to rest into, while Munsey  found a cool spot to rest located closer to the waterfalls up against the rock formations.

Earlier in the day I stopped to check on the cubs and found them swimming in the Bear Woods pond and the swimming pool that’s located in the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Habitat Area.

The cubs love discovering new things and one of items that cubs love playing with is the landscaping material that must line the pond in the BEAR WOODS.

Munsey and Boda love to play with new and interesting toys and that includes the empty beer keg that’s floating in their pond.

On August 10th around noon, was the first time I observed Munsey and Boda swimming across their pond that’s located in the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Habitat Area.  This pool is 13 feet deep in the center and so the cubs would normally only  play and splash along the outside area’s but never had I seen them swim across the deepest area of the pool.

The cubs are now 18 months old and weigh about 380 to 390 pounds each.

Here are just a few photographs from this past weekends guests participating in the NORTHWOODS ART TOUR.  Thank you to all my guests that stopped in to learn about Intaglio Printmaking.  Thanks to my family members and friends that helped me during the art tour.  Thank you to Sharon Drawz, Allie and Scott Wendlandt and my husband Doug. I couldn’t of opened my art studio and participated in the tour without all of your help!  Thank you from the bottom of heart!  Allie, thank you for taking all of these wonderful photographs of the art studio during my demonstrations and visiting with the our guests.

This weekend during the art tour I will have a large selection of artwork on exhibit and for sale.  There are over 200 cards of two rescued Kodiak bear cubs as well as 5 x 7 and 8 x 10 photographs and two different photographic books celebrating the first 15 months of the two Kodiak cubs.

In addition to the photography and books on the rescued Kodiak cubs I also have artwork that celebrates their survival in the format of collages and a charcoal drawing.  This series can be purchased in as an original or in a card format or reproduction print.

“Leap of Faith” is a series of seven compositions that honors the families with autism and can be purchased as cards and 5 x 7 and 8 x 10 reproductions prints.  The more fluid piece of artwork is derived from some fun experimental art projects that in it’s original size is about 1″ x 1 1/2″ in size and can’t be seen without the use of a slide a projector.

I invite you to explore the diversity of artwork showcased at my art studio on July 29-30-31. To learn more about the north woods art tour go to   northwoodsarttour.com

TING  is a 32″ x 36″ pen and ink drawing enhanced with watercolor and colored pencils.  This composition was created while I was cleaning and painting my art studio.  I believe that some of the fumes from my cleaning products had an impact on the subject and style of this composition.  Ting was inspired by Dr. Seuss and a number of people immediately made that connection with Dr. Seuss and this composition.

Ting is only one of over 30 pieces of artwork on exhibit at the iMAGEiNETHAT! Art Studio located in Arbor Vitae, just 1.2 miles north of Lakeland Airport on Bayer Lake Road.  My studio is listed as #14 on the NORTHWOODS ART  TOUR GUIDE. To learn more about the art tour go to  northwoodsarttour.com  The tour dates are July 29th, 30th, 31st and October 7,8 and 9th and the hours are 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.

The process of drawing this 32″ x 36″ charcoal drawing titled  Munsey was a task that had taken me out of my comfort zone. While drawing Munsey, I discovered that I used the same drawing techniques that  I had used when I was drawing a series title Bombus  which was a more surrealistic group of drawings.  When drawing with powdered charcoal I always enjoy experimenting with more unorthodox tools to create my marks.  I use any materials that have a slightly tacky surface that helps me create interesting marks which help me create organic formations and interesting textures.

The bone structure of the Kodiak cub was used as a guide when creating the tufts of fur throughout the composition.  When I’m drawing, I always hyper-focus  on the details and use multiple photographs to help me me make the observations in regards to bone structure, lighting and creating depth through lighting and developing texture in in the composition.

I spent over 24 hours drawing Munsey but I’m not sure of the amount of time I spent observing and photographing the two Kodiak cubs, so I could have a reference as to how to proceed in the creation of the composition.

Bombus is a charcoal drawing that is 3′ x 5′ and was also created with the same drawing techniques as the composition Munsey. To learn more about NORTHWOODS ART TOUR go to northwoodsarttour.comwendlandt_s_bombus_1jpg

It’s always fun to watch Munsey and Boda playing in the pond that’s located in the Bear Woods Habitat area.  The best time of day to catch these two splashing around is between  10 am to 12 noon.

My wonderful daughter has been a line therapist working with autistic children for the past five years.  In honor of her work and those families and friends touched by autism, I’ve created a new series of artwork inspired by daughters dedication and love for children with autism.  The title of this series is “Leap of Faith”.  There are seven collages in this series but I will continue to create more artwork based on this theme.  The images will also be sold as greeting cards.

I’ve been preparing for the upcoming 2016 NORTHWOODS ART  TOUR which will be held on July 29th,30th and 31st.  The art studio will be open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each of those days.  At this time I will not be able to take credit cards due to some technical difficulties.

iMAGiNETHAT! Art Studio is listed as #14 on the self guided tour map.  My artwork is very diverse in medium and the subject matter always represents a mixture of the spirited girl from Chicago with a sprinkling of the Wisconsin North Woods life style.

During the art tour I will be demonstrating printmaking on my Intaglio Printing Press  and I look forward to answering any of your questions in regards to my original prints as well as the background stories behind the creations of my charcoal drawings, collages, assemblages and photography.

I hope you’ll stop in and explore the unique artwork at iMAGiNETHAT! Art Studio located five miles north of Woodruff  and 1.2 miles north of Lakeland Airport ,  just off of North Farming Road, first driveway on Bayer Lake Road.
