Munsey and Boda

I will be selling and signing my books ” JP Adler Kodiak Bear Exhibit” and” Munsey & Boda 9-13 Months” along with Mary Wilson, who is author of  “Wildwood Zoo Book”on Saturday June 18th at Wildwood Zoo in Marshfield, Wisconsin.   So make sure to come to the Zoo Store and purchase some great zoo items as well as meet the authors that have written books about the Wildwood Zoo animals and the Kodiak bear cubs “Munsey and Boda”!   I will be signing books at 11:00-11:30 am  and from 12:00- 12:30 pm and again at 1:00- 1:30 pm  during the Zoo Fest at Wildwood Zoo!

There are also fantastic tee shirts, toys, stuffed animals, zoo animals post cards and Munsey and Boda Greeting cards and so much more…        So, I hope to see you there!

Update on Munsey and Boda

I spent a few hours photographing Munsey and Boda on June 8th, 9th and 10th.  The cubs are 285 pounds and they are as active and very  inquisitive about everything.

Munsey found a frog hopping around the edge of the pond that’s located in the Woodland Habitat Area.  He was extremely intrigued by the frog.  After playing with it and tasting it, he spit it out of his mouth and then he finally ate the little hopper!

The cubs are enjoying their four foot deep pond and spend a lot of time swimming around, munching on roots.  It appears they  like flossing their teeth with the roots as well. The  Woodland Habitat Area pond offers the cubs an opportunity to float on their blue and red balls and multiple water fights are held on a daily basis.

 

From my experience the cubs seem to be very active around 10:30am to noon.  That’s when I’ve found them swimming in the pond, climbing trees and chasing each other around the Woodland Habitat Area.

I just finished creating a few more new photographic books of Munsey and Boda  and they  will be for sale around June 20th.  They will also be on sale during the  2016 NORTHWOODS ART TOUR, to learn more about this event go to northwoodsarttour.com

Munsey & Boda 16 months old

Munsey and Boda are now 285 pounds and they are enjoying their life at Wildwood Zoo in Marshfield, Wisconsin.  Today’s discovery was a little black butterfly that happened to flutter around the cubs.  After a late morning nap the cubs enjoyed a wet and wild splash party in the Woodland Habitat Area followed by a game of tag. They also spent some quality time climbing 30 plus feet up one of the trees located near the pond.

Tree Hugger

The past few days I’ve been watching and photographing the cubs climbing trees, having water fights and chasing each other around the woodland habitat area. Yesterday  evening Munsey  decided to climbed 30  to 40 feet up one of the trees.

While it’s always fun to watch the cubs at play, I do worry about them when they choose to climb 30 feet up a tree!

Munsey has been holding his own when interacting with Boda these days, he’s no longer the passive Kodiak bear cub.  I must say it’s good to see the cubs treat each other with kindness from time to time.  It doesn’t happen often but I had the opportunity to see the cubs demonstrate  their affection for each other yesterday afternoon.

The cubs are around 260 pounds each and are going to be 16 months old in June.

Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of sharing  my knowledge on the Kodiak cubs with the first grade teachers and students from Neilville, Wisconsin.

Kodiak Survivors

This group of photographs were taken between May 5th and May 7th, 2016.  Munsey and Boda are now about 260 pounds and are 15 months old.  Boda is pictured chasing a couple of ducks that kept landing in the pond located in the Woodland habitat area.  At this time Boda still has blond fur on his hind quarters, while Munsey has a sold brown fur coat.  It appears that Munsey’s Summer fur coat is beginning to take on a lighter color.  It will be interesting to see if they  both have a honey blond fur coat during the Summer months.

I continue to work on charcoal drawings, collages and photography all based on the Kodiak cubs and how they’ve survived all the adversities that have been placed before them since they’ve lost their mother in May of 2015.  I’ve decided that the series of  my Kodiak bear cub artwork will be titled “Kodiak Survivors”.  I do have  my first photographic book published and ready for sale and a selection of 20 Kodiak bear cub greeting cards.  The book has 20 pages of full color photographs of the cubs from age 9 months to 13 months.  The photographs are dated and share information about the cubs and how they’ve been growing and developing during those months.

Kodiak Bear Cubs-news article

A new news article was written this month by Riley Woodford in the the Alaska Fish & Wildlife News.  It’s wonderful to see that Alaska is still interested in the health and growth of Munsey and Boda as well as keeping in touch with the Wildwood Zoo in Marshfield Wisconsin.

Munsey & Boda (April 17th)

I spent 6 hours photographing the cubs on April 17th.   Munsey and Boda  each weigh about 230 pounds.  When the cubs arrived in October of 2015  Munsey was 120 pounds and Boda was 130 pounds.  As Munsey’s weight is slowly catches up to Boda, Munsey has become equally aggressive and will initiate some rough housing.  Munsey also feels more confident about   grabbing a chunk of watermelon from Boda and  Munsey is the cub that has discovered  how to retrieve chunks of pineapple from the bottom of the swimming pool.  At this time it’s easy to identify Munsey because he has a darker brown coat of fur while Boda has a honey blond  fur on his rear quarters.

A selection of 19 different photographic greeting cards of the cubs and my first photographic book titled  Munsey & Boda  9 to 13 months, is now for sale and if anyone is interested please contact me.  The book has 20 pages of full color photographs that are dated so the reader can see the development of cubs as they are growing.  The book also offers a variety of information about the cubs and their weight and  other information that describes the  weight changes and characteristics of the cubs as they’ve developed since they arrived in October 2015.

Munsey is in the water retrieving the pineapple, while Boda walks in the edge of the pool.  Munsey captures his pineapple!

The staff at Wildwood Zoo hide snacks for Munsey and Boda in a variety of places throughout  the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Exhibit and Woodland habitat area to challenge the cubs to problem solve and learn new skills.  Munsey is shown in the center photograph attempting to reach a banana that’s been placed out of reach!  Munsey did capture the the banana by jumping up and grasping it from the crevice in the rock where it had been placed.

Boda is shown in the photograph climbing the tree to retrieve his pineapple. One of Boda’s strengths is in tree climbing.

 

Zoo guests are entertained by watching the cubs play tag with each other, swimming, bathing  or taking nap in the Woodland habitat area.

Munsey & Boda – Active Morning

I spent a few hours this morning photographing Munsey and Boda at Wildwood Park and Zoo located in Marshfield, Wisconsin.  The Kodiak cubs were catching a blue ball floating in the pond located in the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Exhibit.  A bit later in the morning the cubs decided to climb a few trees and swim in the pond located in the Woodland Habitat area.

I had an opportunity to meet a few new zoo guests and share information about Munsey and Boda.  I will have an updated edition of my 20 page photographic book titled “Munsey and Boda” ( 9 – 13 months) ready for sale in the few weeks.  The book showcases almost 40  full color photographs of Munsey and Boda.  Each photograph is dated and offers information about the Kodiak bear cubs from October 20th, 2015  to March 11th,2016.
