(Photograph above) Munsey taking a sniff of the yummy stuff packed into the ice globes.

Munsey and Boda has a grand time chomping down on their frozen fruit globes filled with strawberries, banana’s, raspberries, peanut-butter, coconut, apple slices and a drizzle of honey!

I’m constantly amazed at the size and strength of the bears jaws!  The smaller ice globes had at least an inch of ice shell with the fruit snacks packed into the center of the globes and the cubs bite, cracked the shell open without any struggles.

The small ice globes were made from 12 inch balloons and the larger ice globes were made from punch-balls filled with water and cracked open and stuffed with healthy bear snacks.

I observed how well behaved Boda was while Munsey finished off his small ice globe.DSC_9345

My first choice for this book was KODIAK STRIPPER  but I thought that might give people the wrong idea about what might be hiding between the covers of my book!
The Kodiak bears are very good at stripping the bark off the tree’s and the cubs have  even destroyed a few tree’s in both the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Exhibit and the Bear Woods Habitat Area.
My new book “BRANCH MANAGEMENT” can be purchased this Saturday, December 16th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Marshfield Mercantile located at 355 S. Central Ave. Marshfield, WI. I will also have the rest of my Kodiak Bear merchandise (coasters, journals, cards and books) as well as my limited edition greeting cards, art journals and a selection small original prints / collages.
Prices range from $3.00 to $30.00. Please stop by and take a peek at the section of artwork and photographs that range from the documentation of the two rescued Kodiak bear cubs to original and reproduction prints. 20171106_195341
“BRANCH MANAGEMENT” offers the reader 20 pages of photographs documenting the growth and development of Marshfield’s beloved Kodiak bear cubs (Munsey and Boda).  The photographs depict the close relationship the Kodiak bears have with trees.

If your in the mood for watch Munsey and Boda climbing 30 plus feet into the tree tops, check out this video taken in June 2017!

Boda is the bear highest in the tree tops with Munsey just beneath his brother.

Watching Boda try to reach for a little dangling  tree branch, makes me wonder if he’ll  take to the tree tops again in March of 2018.  Many of the bears favorite climbing trees were cut down in late October and early November.  So the Bear Woods Habitat area has many enrichment options for Munsey and Boda to explore this winter.

I began documenting the Kodiak bear cubs through photography in October of 2015 at the Grand Opening of the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Exhibit.  Since October 2015, I’ve taken thousands of photographs and have begun charting the growth and development of the bears using a graphing format.  This information along with the photographs is used when I’m writing my blog and books and is also shared with the zoo staff at Wildwood Zoo.

These little piggies don’t go to the market, the market food is delivered to them twice a day!  The more important news is that this paw belongs to a  32 month old,  Kodiak bear cub named Munsey ! As of Monday, October 2nd, 2017 Munsey weight is 605 pounds.  For breakfast each cub eats about 5 lbs. of raw meat , a large pail of fresh fruits and veggies and 16 cups of bear chow.

Boda’s paws are a  larger than Munsey’s because Boda’s weight is 720 lbs.

While most zoo guest’s think Munsey is the underdog in this relationship, the truth is these two bears are equally matched in the art of wrestling!  Munsey has a greater advantage to out maneuver Boda because of Boda’s larger bone structure and over all bulky body mass.

Boda defiantly missed his dance partner (brother Munsey)!  These two enjoy wrestling around the Bear Woods at the Marshfield Wildwood Zoo as documented on the morning of Tuesday October 3rd.

One of the best time of day to watch Munsey and Boda play together is in the morning between 9:30 am to 11:00 am.

To learn more about the rescued Kodiak bear cubs, you can purchase a hard cover book for $25 that documents the growth and development of Munsey and Boda since they arrived at Wildwood Zoo in October of 2015.
